Hindcast Data Calculation

The Hindcast Data Calculation defines how environmental conditions (wave, wind, and current) are extracted from Hindcast Data time series and converted to conditions that can be used in SIMA analyses.

  • Hindcast Data: Select the hindcast data source to use for the calculation

  • From: Start date for the extraction

  • To: End date for the extraction

  • Input Reference System: Defines the input reference system of the data. If the data is defined in the Metocean system the corresponding SIMA coordinate system data is generated

Use the Set dates from hindcast action to automatically set the date range from the selected hindcast data.

1. Wave

Wave data is extracted directly from the hindcast time series input.

2. Wind

Output wind speed for given levels.

2.1. Wind Levels

Use the Populate from data action to automatically populate the levels from the wind data defined in the hindcast data.

3. Current

  • Current Model: Select how current data is obtained

    • From input data - Use current data directly from the hindcast data

    • From wind velocity - Derive current from wind velocity using empirical relationships

3.1. Calculation Levels

Use the Populate from data action to automatically populate the levels from the current data defined in the hindcast data.

3.2. Wind Driven Current

When using "From wind velocity" current model, additional parameters are available. See Hindcast Data for background on the wind-driven current model.

  • Wind Reference Level: The level in wind data at which wind speed and direction will be used to define the current (m)

  • Direction Relative to Wind: Direction relative to wind. Zero angle means collinear wind and current (deg)

  • K Factor: Scaling factor applied to the wind-driven current component

  • Wind Current Profile: Profile defining how the wind-driven current varies with depth. If not specified, a constant profile is used

  • Base Current Speed: Speed of the base current (m/s)

  • Base Current Profile: Profile defining how the base current varies with depth

4. Output Reference System

When using the Metocean input reference system, results are transformed to the SIMA coordinate system.

  • Relative Compass Angle: Relative angle between analysis x-axis and north direction in anti-clockwise direction. Should match the angle given in the receiving SIMA task location (deg)
