1. Overview of terms 1.1. Workspace When you open the program for the first time you are prompted to create a new workspace or select an existing workspace. A workspace is a location on disk where all resources will be stored. A workspace contains one or more tasks. Typically a workspace corresponds to a project. 1.2. Tasks A task contains the model and settings for a program to run or do a specific domain specific job. It can be created from scratch or created for you when you import existing input files. As seen in the picture below (where a default SIMO task and a default RIFLEX task has been created) there are a number of objects that are prepared for you when you start out with a new task. These are: 1.2.1. Location Depending on the type of task location may contain the sea surface, the sea bottom, view points into the 3D graphical view and other UTM location specific objects like pipe lines, ROV?s and other infrastructure objects. 1.2.2. Calculation Parameters In a SIMO or RIFLEX task there are static and dynamic calculation parameters that must be adjusted to suit the needs for the given project. 1.2.3. Initial Condition This condition is created for you when you create a new task (e.g. SIMO task). The first environment (if there are any) is used and all variables defined in the task will be a part of the run. 1.3. Conditions A Condition is a part of a task where you run your analysis and study the results. If a task contains alternative model items (e.g. multiple environment conditions or variables) exactly what to use for the analysis is selected in the Condition. A special unmodifiable Condition - the Initial Condition is automatically created in all tasks. In this condition the first environment is selected and all variables have their default value. Analysis are run from a condition. There are 4 basic types: 1.3.1. Initial condition This condition is created for you when you create a new task. The first environment (if there are any) is used and all variables defined in the task will be at their initial value. 1.3.2. Condition This condition defines a run as an initial condition does, but here you may choose any environment in the task and freely choose the value of the variables. You may add or remove variables from a condition as needed for the given simulation run by clicking the Add/remove variables link. 1.3.3. Condition set This condition is used when you want do define a list of runs (i.e. a parameter variation) based on variables you have defined in the task. You may set one or more variables as fixed for all runs in the Configure fixed variables section. You may also set one of the variables as a probability variable - typically used for fatigue analyses. The probability variable must add up to 1 for all simulation runs combined. 1.3.4. Condition space This condition is used when you want to create a matrix of runs based on variables defined in the task. All variables values are run against each other.
