Diffracted Wave

1. Reference point

  • X: X-coordinate of the reference point,[m]

  • Y: Y-coordinate of the reference point,[m]

  • Z: Z-coordinate of the reference point,[m]

2. Diffracted wave elevation and velocity transfer functions

This data should be calculated by a diffraction theory program such as WAMIT or WADAM and imported into SIMA.

Each point for which the transfer function from the incoming wave to the diffracted wave is given, will have an identifier. The wave forces on a body can be calculated from the diffracted wave at a specified point.

This is useful in particular for cases where a small lifted module is lowered through the splash zone on the leeward side of the crane vessel, and where shadowing effects can reduce the wave forces significantly.

Both for slender elements, fixed body elements and small body hydrodynamic data, diffracted wave kinematics can be used to calculate the wave forces. This is done by specifying the named diffracted wave for these elements.

This diffracted wave model can only be used in a fixed field point. From SIMA 5.2, it also possible to define a Disturbed Wave Field, which allows diffracted wave kinematics to be applied in points moving inside a defined box-shaped region around a diffractor body. The new functinality should be preferred for most use cases.
