External Wrapping

This component can be used to model additional weight or buoyancy modules attached to a riser line.

The specified additional weight and buoyancy are used to adjust the average properties of the segment.

External buoyancy of weight elements that are clamped to the pipe are specified as external wrapping.

External wrapping cannot be specified for segments consisting of the cross sections Double Symmetric Cross Section and Fish Net.

1. Parameters

1.1. Mass and Volume

  • Mass: Mass per unit length

  • Buoyancy: Buoyancy volume per unit length (cross-sectional area of displaced volume)

  • Gyration radius: Radius of gyration around local x-axis

  • Covered fraction: Fraction of the segment covered by the wrapping (0 ≤ covered fraction ≤ 1)

1.2. Hydrodynamic Coefficients

  • Tangential drag: Quadratic drag force coefficient in tangential direction

  • Normal drag: Quadratic drag force coefficient in normal direction

  • Tangential added mass: Added mass per unit length in tangential direction

  • Normal added mass: Added mass per unit length in normal direction

  • Tangential linear drag: Linear drag force coefficient in tangential direction

  • Normal linear drag: Linear drag force coefficient in normal direction
