1. Main steps to make a coupled model

  • Fully coupled SIMO-Riflex model

    • connect a SIMO model and a Riflex model

  • Two connection alternatives between the SIMO body and the Riflex model

    • dummy element

    • Super node

  • See illustrations below from example Coupled RIFLEX-SIMO/Example_SemiSub

3. Change boundary condition on master node in dynamic analysis

4. Example: Example_SemiSub in SIMA

  • Body is a semi-sub modelled in SIMO

  • The slender system is modelled in Riflex

    • 22 risers

    • 12 mooring lines

  • Dummy beam in Riflex at body location

    • Dummy_node1 - master node

    • Dummy_node2 - slave node

  • Nodes at the riser hang-offs and and fairleads are slave nodes. Their master is dummy_node1

  • Note that the master node is fixed originally. The node is released in static analysis when the system is connected. An option is to release the master node initially in the dynamic analysis

6. Dummy beam - master & slave node

7. Risers & mooring lines

  • The nodes at riser hang-off and at fairlead (mooring lines) are slaves of the master node dummy_node1

8. Release the master node

  • The master node will then be able to move
